    About the role

    In this role, you’ll provide high‑quality daily support to the council Leaders, Chairs, Chief Executive and executive team, helping them deliver the councils’ priorities and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders. You’ll manage diaries, inboxes and correspondence, arrange and support meetings and civic events, and prepare documents, reports and presentations. The role also includes coordinating responses to enquiries, FOI requests and complaints, offering telephone cover, and occasionally assisting with business support tasks. As a key representative of the councils, you’ll help ensure smooth operations, uphold our values and contribute to achieving our wider organisational objectives.

    Essential criteria for the role (pull across the most essential qualifications, skills, knowledge and experience, not all of them) 

    We’re looking for someone with a relevant professional qualification or demonstratable experience in a similar role. You’ll bring strong, proven knowledge of the key responsibilities, excellent IT skills—particularly in Outlook—and confident written and verbal communication. Experience within local government is desirable but not essential.

    Key responsibilities for the role

    • Managing correspondence for the executive team, logging enquiries, redirecting to or gathering information from other teams and ensuring responses are sent promptly. This will include preparing responses to FOI requests and complaints on behalf of the executive team.
    •  Diary and inbox support for the council Leaders and Chairs if and when required, and support for the Chairs attending civic functions on behalf of the councils.
    • Arrange and manage fundraising civic events, functions and dinners hosted by the Chairs to formally represent the councils.
    • Draft documents, presentations and reports for the executive team (including collating and interpreting information from all departments across the council). 
    •  Provide ad hoc cover for the Business Support officers as requested, including raising, coding purchase orders and invoices on occasion.
