About the role
Cornerstone (Didcot) and The Beacon (Wantage) are vibrant arts centres hosting professional performances and community projects. The Marketing and Development Officer will lead marketing and audience development across both venues, creating imaginative, cost‑effective campaigns to increase income and brand reach. In addition, the post will play a key role in supporting the development and delivery of the South and Vale Culture, Heritage and Creative Industries (CHCI) Strategy, ensuring that marketing, partnership‑building, and audience insight activity contributes to wider district‑level cultural growth and strategic priorities.
Essential criteria for the role
- Demonstrable experience of managing an arts marketing team in a theatre or arts centre, strong marketing and communications expertise, including audience development, digital tools, website management, and box office systems.
- Experience identifying and securing external sponsorship and arts funding, with knowledge of funder requirements and a proven ability to write successful funding bids.
- Strategic and operational planning ability, with experience working effectively across partnerships in commercial and voluntary sectors.
Key responsibilities for the role
- Design and deliver creative marketing campaigns, including print, digital, social media, and promotional materials, to raise awareness and strengthen the centre’s brand locally and nationally
- Plan, deliver, and review marketing activity to maximise income and increase audiences across the arts centre and the council’s wider arts and culture programme.
- Lead, develop and implement the centre’s marketing plan and strategy in collaboration with the Arts Centre Team Leader.
- Line manage marketing assistants and box office staff, including recruitment, supervision, coaching, appraisals, and day‑to‑day workload management, ensuring cohesive working across marketing, ticketing operations, and customer service.
- Manage the marketing and development budget, monitoring spend and measuring the impact of marketing activity using box office and reporting tools.
