About the role
The Beacon is a popular community facility in Wantage offering a range of activities and events including live performances, activity classes, exhibitions, parties and cinema. We are looking for an enthusiastic person to provide assistance and support to the duty officers and team leader in the effective, safe running of the venue.
Essential criteria for the role
- 3 GCSEs including Maths and English at Grades A – C or equivalent, and hold, or are willing to undertake First Aid and Fire Safety training (and act as one of the venues first aiders/fire wardens)
- Ability to communicate effectively with members of the public and internal colleagues
- Good IT skills including Microsoft word, excel, use of internet and use of electronic booking system
- Experience of serving customers in a bar or catering environment, or equivalent cash-handling experience and understanding of health and safety procedures
- A Level-headed and proactive problem solver, with a flexible approach to working patterns
Please note this role will regularly include evenings and weekends and working times/days will vary depending on the rota and venue requirement.
Key responsibilities for the role
- Responsibility for assisting with day-to-day operations at The Beacon, dealing with enquiries and offering high-quality customer service
- Responsibility for assisting the duty officers with carrying out health and safety, fire safety and building checks, and informing customers of evacuation procedures.
- Ensuring the public spaces are clean, tidy and safe at all times
- Setting up and clearing away of furniture and equipment, including assisting with technical lighting and sound equipment, as required by hirers
- Support the venue manager, team leader, and duty officers in the running of The Beacon and all its activities.
- Working in our in-house bar serving drinks and snacks to customers and preparing refreshments for meetings and hirers as required.
- Assist with stock taking and inventory checks and banking/cashing up
- Carry out additional tasks allocated by the Venue manager, duty manager or team leader to assist in the smooth running of The Beacon (e.g. updating notice boards, occasional cleaning tasks)
- Undertake any other duties relating to the work of the team as required
